I suppose I’m what you would call a ‘mature backpacker’. I’m in my early thirties, a professional, earn a decent salary, man, I even own my own business. Yet I have a wanderlust that my professional salary cannot handle on luxury-terms, so I’m doing my travelling backpacker style with pizzazz. What does that mean? Well, in my early twenties as I traveled around Europe, Northern Africa and Thailand, I didn’t have a care in the world. I would throw some necessary ‘stuff’ into my backpack and just go. To heck with planning what to take or where to go. This time round is worlds different. I’ve put a lot more planning into my backpacking trip and I’ve bought all the bells and whistles to make it as easy as possible on myself. I have even made lists based on ‘research’. I don’t do lists. I’m a people person. Whaaaaat is going on? I am starting to wonder if I may have gone just a tiny bit overboard. I want that care-free girl to come back into my life and throw out the anal one I have adopted. For now, I’ll follow the research, stick with the lists and perhaps tell you if its worth all the planning once we are in South America. Let’s wait and see.
