Samba, Rio de Janeiro

Brazil, a country of many nations but a united culture.  The people are passionate and definitely know how to enjoy life.

And Rio is synonymous with its people. The city’s heartbeat is that of the samba drum and those rhythms come alive at night.

At this time of year it’s all about the upcoming Carnaval in February. There are samba schools where dancers practice for the parade and even in the samba clubs the words on everyone’s lips is Carnaval.

We got to experience a live band called Bloco a Preta at a samba school called Fundicao Progresso in the Lapa barra (area). The locals knew every word and some even spontaneously broke into some samba steps.

I can see why  Carnaval and New  Years in Rio is so popular, the music just draws you in and the rhythm is going to get you.
