We are currently in Bolivia in a beautiful little town called Copacabana. It’s on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world – above 3000m.
It’s a bit like seaside resort except it’s on a lake and it is freezing cold in mid-summer. I quickly realised that I underpacked warm clothes so off I went and bought an alpaca wool jersey, scarf and beanie-thingy.
Copacabana is clearly the local holiday resort. People are playing fusball on the lakeshore, taking out swan-shaped paddle boats and there is a long row of local trout eateries to choose from.
Things are ridiculously cheap here. Our hotel is costing us R120 pppn (3 high end hotel rooms including breakfast and lake view) and supper last night was lemon trout, fresh from the lake for R40. It was delicious.
We witnessed the beauty of a storm brewing over the lake on our way home from supper and had to rush inside before the heavens tore open and released their burden.
There is much more to see here but I am in need of some rest so I am just relaxing before we catch a bus later today to La Paz.
